ERASMUS+

Dr.Gulzhanat Tayauova,

My ERASMUS+ Experience

This year I was lucky to have Erasmus+ Teaching experience at ICD International Business School in France. My expectations from Erasmus+ are to develop my own competences in my field and increase the relevance of my teaching, increase knowledge of social and cultural matters, build up new contacts and expand my professional network, reinforce the cooperation with a partner institution and research collaboration etc.

Accordingly, first day of my arrival to ICD Business School we had a seminar with French colleagues and shared research interest in order to make joint publication or project in the future. Erasmus+ gives an opportunity to see educational and scientific developments in other countries. We can enhance research expertise by jointly organizing cross-cultural research and publications.

Further, I taught International Human Resources Management to MBA students. IHRM is very interesting course in terms of cultural differences in managing human resources worldwide. With group discussions and integrative group case studies students learnt options and best practices: staffing; training & development; performance management; compensation of IHRM and tried to understand how might these HRM processes and objectives be different in selected countries, for example in USA, Turkey, Arab States, China, Russia, India, and France. Luckily, the class was very diverse in terms of culture and countries. There were foreign students from Nepal, China, Italy, Algeria, India, Bangladesh and even those who were born in France were also representatives of different nationalities. Therefore, it was a good opportunity to discuss and learn new things on cultural diversification and its management in HRM. Further, I learnt that students in ICD Business School in order to pass an exam should solve given assignments by taking part in a specific company. This gives students an opportunity to have not only theory, but also practice at the same time.

At ICD Business School I saw for the first time educational hub like IGS Group where 12 business schools are involved and sharing the same building, library, staff etc. This is a good example of interaction between higher education institutions, providing and enhancing network of students, and, the most important is saving resources. Instead of having business schools within different universities and acting separately, it is better to form hubs which in turn can have tremendous effect on not only personal development of students, but also to country’s economic and social development. I think that in our country we also should start this experience.

This was my second Erasmus+ teaching experience. First I spent in Belgium. Each time I learn something new in terms of teaching methods, student behavior, more generally how things are done in other countries. This gives me an opportunity to enhance my global mindset, share and apply it in my home university.
